B&R has grown into what it is today by accepting responsibility, before anything else. The company’s earliest decisions—where to invest, when to expand, and the standards to be met—established a pattern that still governs operations today.

History & Legacy

B&R Machining & Fabrication didn't begin with a facility, a customer base, or even a plan to grow.

It began with a set of decisions—about how work would be done, what standards would not be compromised, and what responsibility meant when the shop door opened each day.

What first was necessity—became practice, and practice became expectation.

1994 — The Beginning

In 1994, co-founder and president Barry Ballew opened a small machine shop behind his home in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, drawing on more than fifteen years of experience in the machining and fabrication industry.
With three employees and leased equipment, the operation was modest by design, but deliberate in its expectations.

1996 — Establishment

In 1996, the operation was formally established as B&R Machining & Fabrication, Inc.
Having begun in a garage behind a home, it took on a more permanent footing. Trust was earned as the work proved consistent in quality and repeatable—allowing that work to reach across the Southeast and into the Midwest.

2026 — At Scale

Today, B&R operates at a larger scale, with broader reach and greater complexity—but the bar remains the same.
The company continues to operate with honesty, integrity, and accountability—standards that have allowed growth without changing how the work is done.

B&R’s facilities and equipment enable consistent application of standards at any scale. Growth has expanded capacity without changing execution or control.

Physical Capacity

Primary Facility (B&R Machining & Fabrication)

Located at 1165 US-25, Traveler's Rest, SC 29690, approximately 20,000 sq. ft. configured around defined production zones to support controlled material flow and inspection discipline.

CNC lathes and mills positioned toward the front of the facility for primary machining operations

Bar-feed lathes grouped into two dedicated areas to support "lights out" production

Manual machining equipment isolated in a dedicated rear area

Welding operations contained in a separate rear section

Centralized shipping and packaging area to control final release and outbound verification

Material receiving, preparation, and sawing located at the rear of the building to maintain clean inbound flow

Secondary Facility (Precision Specialty Products)

Located at 2254 Powdersville Rd, Easley, SC 29642, approximately 10,000 sq. ft. serving as an additional controlled production environment supporting overflow capacity and assembly operations.

Flow & Control

Work moves through B&R using a defined physical flow where material, documentation, and job status remain linked at all times. Job state is visible, controlled, and verified before advancing.

Material sourced and acquired per job

Material cut, documented, and staged on dedicated carts with associated paperwork

Setup assigned to Setup Tech, material retrieved from staging for setup, paperwork verified

First Article Inspection (FAI) completed and approved by additional technician after setup is complete before production begins

Completed work is routed to final inspection prior to release

Blue — Additional operation required

Yellow tag — Production complete, awaiting final inspection

Green tag — Approved for shipment

Red tag — Defective (scrap)

B&R Standards

The expectations applied to every job, every day.

Standards at B&R are not aspirational statements. They define the minimum conditions under which work is accepted, released, and delivered, and apply equally across all projects and timelines—regardless of scope or urgency.

Training & Methodology

Work is performed by personnel thoroughly trained in ISO-based methodology and apply those practices consistently across operations.

In-Process Verification

Parts are verified throughout production, including at completion. In-process checks are conducted at hourly intervals to ensure dimensional control is maintained.

Documentation & Traceability

Quality documentation is traceable and retained.
Inspection records and supporting documentation are maintained to provide accountability and repeatability.

Final Release

No part leaves the shop without verification. Final 10% inspection is required prior to release, regardless of job size or delivery pressure.

Packaging & Delivery Condition

Parts are packaged to preserve condition and utility upon arrival. Packaging is selected based on part requirements to ensure components arrive ready for use.

Deviation Control

Deviations are controlled and documented. Any departure from print, process, or requirement is reviewed and recorded before work proceeds.

Giving Back to the Community

Over the years, B&R has supported a range of charitable organizations, relief efforts, schools, and mission work through a combination of financial contributions, material support, skilled labor, and volunteer involvement. These efforts are not centralized under a single program, nor pursued for recognition, but carried out as needs arise and opportunities are presented. Giving back is viewed not as an initiative, but as participation.
